Rick was our first international stalking victim. After several days of disappointing our palates with pint after pint of Real Ale, we used the “who’s drinking what nearby?” feature of Untappd to see if we were just picking the wrong spot. No, as it turns out, we weren’t. Knutsford just doesn’t have any craft beer bars.

But Untappd did show us one person -- Rick Dean -- drinking some outstanding beers. From his home, or the homes of his friends. So we did what comes natural: stalked him on Twitter and pestered him until he became our friend. Hooray for social media!

The online friendship became a real friendship, and we had several occasions to enjoy a pint or three with Rick. He even brought us some from his personal stash to rescue our tastebuds!
