The Party Isn't Over. It's Just In A New Time Zone

If you've been following us on our social properties or listening to the podcast, you already know this. But for those who haven't yet heard the news...

We're headed back to America!

No, it wasn't for an international incident. We didn't become political refugees of Thailand. We weren't even asked to leave.

Our son, NJ, has decided to make us grandparents! Our first granddaughter is set to arrive sometime in late July, and neither of us want to be absentee grandparents. So I'm writing you this missive from a cafe in Beijing as we make our last-hurrah of Asian countries. Japan and Korea are up next.

But just because we're going to be headed back, it doesn't mean our life of travel is over. Far from it. Now that we know how dead simple it is to travel the world, we've no intentions of stopping. It's just that the new kid -- we'll call her Bali -- takes priority, and that naturally changes things for us.

Yes, we'll restart the podcast when we get back. And yes, you might even see a new blog post or two coming as well. Stay tuned!

Neither Sick Mom Nor Goofy Military Shall Spoil This Thailand Vacation

Neither Sick Mom Nor Goofy Military Shall Spoil This Thailand Vacation

Faced with the prospect of sharing 42 square meters (~450 square feet) with my mother for seven days didn't sound like a good time. Great Flight or Greatest Flight Over The Great Barrier Reef?

Ask around, and you’ll find that a visit to the Great Barrier Reef is on most people’s bucket list. I’m not really a “bucket list” kinda guy, but other than Mars, it’s the consistent place I’ve always wanted to travel ever since I can remember. Yesterday, that long-held desire was realized, but not in the way I thought it would be.

We explored an archeology dig from the glass floor of the Sydney Youth Hostel. We saw the city’s scars after plague-fearing officials razed one neighborhood but let another stand. And much, much more!

Why iPhones Should Be Off Limits For Digital Nomads

Why iPhones Should Be Off Limits For Digital Nomads

tl;dr - Apple phones can only be replaced under warranty in the country where they were purchased. Officially, that takes them out of the consideration set for any digital nomad or full-time traveler without a base to call home. So don’t get into a $900 hole like I did. Here’s the story that started back in September… and remains unresolved in mid-November. #thanksapple

Why Ant Dens & Bee Hives Make Terrible Travel Destinations

Why Ant Dens & Bee Hives Make Terrible Travel Destinations

Describing Da Nang is impossible, as changes from block to block are vast! One neighborhood is very much a traditional Vietnamese village, with people cooking in outdoor kitchens and using sidewalks as their dining rooms. On the next street over there's a 12-story high-rise, with accommodations that wouldn't look out of place in any other modern city around the world. On the beach, there's a huge all-inclusive resorts that shares a border with a small hotel, which in turn shares a border with three or four houses nestled together.

Making Heads & Tales of North & South Vietnam

Making Heads & Tales of North & South Vietnam

The picture was taken inside the Reunification Palace in Ho Chi Minh City. There isn't anything describing this particular display, but I get the feeling it's left as an example of what not to do. A reminder of the stark differences between the wealthy ruling class in the south and, well... everyone else in Vietnam at the time.
