Belgium is a beer country. Even self-professed hopheads like us can appreciate the culture, history, and rich, boozy beers produced in this country. If you're a beer fan and you're going to Europe, you have to go to Belgium.
And if you can, try and find a bottle of Westvleteren 12. We found ours at Au Brasseur. It's a beer that rates a perfect score of 100 from RateBeer.com and is considered among many to be the best beer in the world. I'm not sure about that last part, but I do know it's the finest Belgian beer I've ever had.
Drinking it -- and others, naturally -- at Au Brasseur was a treat. The staff spoke much better English than we spoke French, and were happy to swap out a couple of beers on the standard flight to a few we hadn't tried. No up charge, either. This place is pretty popular with the locals, as everyone seemed to know everyone.
Nice place. We'll visit again the next time we're in town!
